Online VS Print

Some of the aspects of an online newspapaer that differ from the print version, and the most noticable is the opportunity to actually wacth news videos and clips these videos seem to be more entertaining, and add a splash of fun to the informative structure that a newspaer can have. Another difference that I noticed were the forecast and traffic reports. In contrast to the newspaper, where there is only one version per day, online newspapers can have many updates throughout the day, therefore the forecast can be up-to-date and not just the day's high, and the same concept can be applied to the traffic reports which aren't even available in the print version. The last thing I noticed was the ability to print coupons. I thought this was interesting because with the print version, coupons are only available on Sundays, but with the online version you have access to them daily which is great.

The fact that the news is updated throughout the day is more enticing to me than the print version. Getting the latest or breaking news without it having to interupt with a program or having to watch it at the scheduled times the news is supposed to come on is more condusive to the lifestyle or agenda of each indivdual. The print version is an easier read. The online version seems a bit scattered but the print is all in one piece; you don't have to search for much.

One of the aspects of online versions of newspaper that were present in all the news sites that I visited was the opporunity to watch news videos and view photo galleries of various subject manner. Another thing was the opportunity to share your opinion throughout various avenues of the newspaper, which could be done through blogs, message boards and things of that nature. USA Today even had an entire section devoted to opinions. On a few of them; Times and MSNBC there was the opportunity to personalize it to what is of importance to you in regards to news and entertainment.

All the news sites that I visted were pretty effictive in presenting the news. The updates and them even telling when the site/news was last updated says alot. New York Times and USA Today were the most effective. The colors on the USA Today site kept on the site because they were bright, CNN was somewhat drab and I didn't want to look into the site too much. New York Times seemed to have offer more catergories to look into such as education, theather, books than the other news sites. It also had less about celebrity news which I think is good. I also perferred the layout of that site out of all of them; it was easier on the eyes, everything flowed nicely.

3 features online news should contain:
1. News videos and clips;more captivating than text.
2.The ability to customize/personalize to what is relevant to you and the option of being able to set the news site as an homepage.
3.Aside from comics, more entertainment that is cognitive rather than glamourized or clebrity entertainment. Things such as quizzes which were available on a few sites along with puzzles and games.
